The Official Launch of Smart & Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing (SSAM) Industry Joint Labs

On 3 October 2025, A*STAR launched four new joint labs to strengthen Singapore’s aerospace and advanced manufacturing sectors. Among these was the second phase of the Smart and Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing (SSAM) Joint Lab, a key collaboration between A*STAR ARTC, Rolls-Royce, SAESL, Abrasive Engineering, Applied Total Control (ATC), and Grand Venture Technology (GVT).
With a total committed investment of over S$55 million, the initiatives reaffirm A*STAR’s commitment to advancing industrial innovation through research collaboration. Of this, S$34 million will go toward the SSAM Joint Lab Phase 2, while S$21 million will fund three new SME-aligned projects with local partners — Abrasive Engineering, ATC and GVT.
Building on the success of the first phase, the SSAM Joint Lab continues to focus on accelerating the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies that enhance productivity, efficiency, and sustainability. Phase 2 will expand its scope to include next-generation capabilities such as AI-enabled predictive maintenance, digital twin technology, and sustainable manufacturing solutions that reduce waste and carbon emissions.
Speaking at the event, representatives from A*STAR and Rolls-Royce reaffirmed their shared vision of enabling smart and sustainable growth for Singapore’s manufacturing sector. The collaboration underscores how strong public–private partnerships can deliver impactful innovation and nurture local capabilities to support future-ready industries.
Through these initiatives, ARTC continues to play a central role in translating research into real-world industrial impact, bridging innovation between global corporations and local enterprises. The SSAM Joint Lab stands as a model of how collaborative R&D can empower Singapore’s manufacturing ecosystem to achieve operational excellence while driving environmental sustainability.
