[RECORDED] Empowering Parents in òòò½ÍøThrough Digital Health Interventions: Reflections and Future Directions

In this seminar, Associate Professor Shefaly Shorey shares valuable insights gained from her decade of experience in parenting research. She discusses her work in developing and evaluating interventions for parents during the perinatal period, utilising digital healthcare technologies such as mobile applications and chatbots. Additionally, she offers suggestions for enhancing the parenting research landscape in Singapore. These recommendations include broadening the focus beyond the perinatal period, engaging entire family units (e.g. mothers, fathers, and other relatives), leveraging recent technological advancements to create more engaging interventions, and ensuring that support is inclusive and equitable for all parents.

Dr Shefaly Shorey is an Assistant Dean (Administration) and Associate Professor at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Her research programme focuses on enhancing family and women’s health, and she has developed psychosocial and educational interventions for various populations. With over 230 peer-reviewed papers published in high-impact journals, Dr Shorey is a prominent figure in her field.

She represents òòò½Íøas Chair of the Southeast and East Asian Nursing Education and Research Network (SEANERN) and serves on the Global Working Group (GWG) on Salutogenesis. Dr Shorey’s work has been widely recognised in national newspapers and featured on television and radio channels.

An experienced and award-winning educator, Dr Shorey believes in lifelong learning and employs a student-centered, evidence-based approach to facilitate her students’ learning. She has supervised over 70 research students and examined more than 50 research theses. She has received numerous awards for her academic and research excellence, including the prestigious President Nurse Award in 2021, Singapore's highest accolade for nursing, and the NMRC HPHSR Clinician Scientist Award (Senior Category) in 2023.
