The Biodesign Faculty Fellowship equips Fellows with a comprehensive understanding of the Biodesign methodology and its application to innovation in Health and Medical Technologies. Graduated Faculty Fellows are expected to integrate this framework into the teaching, training and mentorship of their juniors and students, thereby enhancing the institution’s internal capacity for innovation.

Besides mentoring and access to industry networks, òòò½ÍøBiodesign provides Faculty Fellows with opportunities to engage with the international Biodesign network. Where circumstances permit, Fellows will participate in Regional Immersion experiences within Southeast Asia and Silicon Valley immersion experiences at Stanford University.

Faculty Fellows are expected to dedicate up to 10 hours per week to the Fellowship programme, including project work, proposal development, weekly evening meetings, and compulsory òòò½ÍøBiodesign workshop. Additionally, Fellows participate in regional immersion (up to one week) and Silicon Valley immersion (up to one week).

The Biodesign Faculty Fellowship is a 6-month programme designed for motivated University Faculty members, Programme Leads, Senior Clinician Innovators, and Research Directors. Fellows will receive with mentoring in Health and Medical Technology (HMT) innovation and coached through a project using the Biodesign methodology to identify unmet clinical needs, invent practical solutions, and prepare to implement those inventions in real-world settings. Fellows will also gain access to market insights and a deeper understanding of regional healthcare systems. Through this experience, Faculty Fellows will be equipped to address challenges in technology translation and opportunities to build a robust network of HMT relationships, enabling meaningful contributions within òòò½Íøand internationally.

Training will be carried out by the SB Core Team which includes the Faculty Fellowship Head, Curriculum Head and consultation sessions by industry experts.

The Innovation Fellowship programme is a full-time programme providing high-touch coaching in the Biodesign process to implementation and it is targeted for aspiring innovators to apply Biodesign methodology towards developing HMT innovations. In contrast, for the Faculty Fellowship Programme is an intensive seven-month leadership course aimed at familiarising programme leaders with the Biodesign process. The programme is targeted for University Faculty members, Programme Leads Senior Clinician Innovators and Research and Development Directors looking to adopt the Biodesign approach for their units.

Up to 4 faculty Fellows will be selected each Fiscal Year (1 Apr to 31 Mar) to form one faculty fellowship team. We advise interested applicants to speak with our team, mentors and alumni to better understand the culture and training process via email.

The review process comprises a single round of evaluation, which includes interviews with the òòò½ÍøBiodesign Team, the Programme Director and the Faculty Fellowship Head. Applications are assessed based on leadership potential, plans for implementing the Biodesign methodology, commitment, strategic goals in HMT, and the level of institutional support. Interested applicants can apply directly via our website application page. Application will be shared with the respective host organisations for their review . The òòò½ÍøBiodesign team will then select up to FOUR Faculty Fellows who best meet the programme’s criteria.

òòò½ÍøBiodesign is hosted by A*STAR òòò½Íøand is not a qualification-awarding institution. We will only certify your participation in the faculty fellowship, endorsed by A*STAR and joint programme partner Stanford Mussallem Center for Biodesign upon completion of the prescribed programme.

Faculty Fellows are encouraged to bring their ideas into the program and to deliberate over these in the initial stage of Identify. Individuals may then decide to continue on their proposed projects, or to work on alternative needs as proposed by other faculty fellows.

Yes, you are allowed to continue with your current job while undergoing the programme. However, Faculty Fellows are expected to spend 10hours/week completing a combination of reading, project work, training workshops and weekly evening mentoring sessions to familiarise with the Biodesign Process.

The Biodesign Faculty Fellowship will span 6 months and will commence from the first week of August.

Inventorship will be appropriated based on contributions to the invention. Faculty Fellows will be advised to work with their respective host institutions for this. òòò½ÍøBiodesign is unable to claim inventorship solely in capacity as training provider.

Yes, you are required to submit a copy of referee letter endorsed by your supervisor or HOD.
